The first annual
Haddonfield Memorial High School Class of 1956
Scholarship for Further Education in Music was awarded
to Charlotte Fielder Olson at the Senior Awards Program
at the high school on June 5, 2007. Over 200 awards and
scholarships were presented during the evening.
Charlotte (known to all as “Lotte”) is the daughter of
Lauris and Elizabeth Olson of Haddonfield.
Lotte, an accomplished
music student, also received the Louis Armstrong Jazz
Band Award, the Band First Chair Award, the Orville S.
“Joe” Johnson Scholarship, and the Neumueller Music
Scholarship. She plans to attend the Eastman School of
Music of the University of Rochester (NY), where she
will continue her musical studies and play her trumpet.
While at HMHS, Lotte played in the band, orchestra, and
jazz band. She shared her musical talents with the All
Eastern Orchestra, the All South Jersey Wind Ensemble,
and the All South Jersey Orchestra. She is a member of
the National Honor Society.
Coincidentally, Lotte
is the granddaughter of HMHS Class of 1956 member Judy
Jefferies Fielder and her husband, Fred Fielder. Lotte
served as one of the tour guides of the high school at
our 50th reunion weekend last October. Those
in her tour group must have been on their best behavior,
for Lotte commented that “the folks on the tour couldn’t
have been nicer. I learned a lot about the ‘old days’
at HMHS.” In fact, so impressed was Lotte that the
subject of her college entrance essay was the tour!
Lotte and her parents send a huge “thank you” for
establishing this music scholarship. It will go a long
way towards helping Lotte as she pursues her musical
education at the Eastman School of Music, and the
scholarship gives a big boost to the music program at
HMHS as well. |
