The third annual Haddonfield Memorial High School Class of 1956 Scholarship for Further Education in Music was awarded to Colin Andrew Newell.

Classmates Dick Hammond and Baird Foster presented the Annual HMHS Class of 1956 Scholarship for Further Education in Music to graduating senior Colin Andrew Newell at the HMHS Senior Awards Program on June 2, 2009.  Our scholarship recipients are determined by a high school selection committee.  More than $100,000 in scholarships was awarded to members of the Class of 2009.

At HMHS, Colin participated in the vocal and instrumental music programs.  He played euphonium (brass instrument similar to a tuba) and is self-taught on piano, guitar, and drums.  To contribute further to the music programs, Colin became involved in the recording and production side of musical presentation.  He designed and built a recording studio in the high school and has cut his own CD, on which he featured some of his own compositions.

The multi-talented youth, along with other seniors, was also awarded The Foundation for Educational Opportunity Scholarship and the Rotary Club of Haddonfield Foundation Scholarship.

Apart from his musical skills and interests, Colin has earned a black belt in karate.  He plans to attend Lebanon Valley College for Music Recording and Engineering, where he will learn more about the “behind the scenes” part of the music world.
